Apple is Having Another Event October 16, 2014 – New iPads and Macs?

Apple October 2014 Event InviteApple on Wednesday sent invitations to select members of the press for a keynote address on Thursday, October 16, 2014 at 1pm eastern standard time. It is expected that Apple will release a refreshed iPad Air and iPad Mini at this event. Rumors have pointed to the inclusion of TouchID on the iPad models, and an even slimmer design for the iPad Air. The Apple invite simply indicated “It’s been way too long.”

Since many models of Macintosh computers have not been refreshed recently, and since a new version of Mac OS X (Yosemite 10.10) is currently in the final Gold Master release candidate version, it is expected that new models of Macs may also be showcased. The new version of Mac OS X, Yosemite, enables iOS 8 continuity features of the iPad and iPhone to be enabled. In addition to allowing your Mac OS X 10.10 computer to send/receive SMS Messages and make phones calls using your iOS 8 iPhone, continuity also will allow you to start work on certain apps on your Mac and finish on your iPad/iPhone and vice-versa.

It is expected that new features of Mac OS X Yosemite will be demoed at this event. Due to the substantial changes of the new operating system, it would be surprising if Apple did not spend at least a portion of the event showcasing the new features, and introducing new versions of software to take advantage of the update.

This event is being held at the Apple Infinite Loop Campus Headquarters in Cupertino, California. Since the Town Hall auditorium is a much smaller venue, it is not expected that any new product categories will be released at this event. See 9to5 Mac for more information about the upcoming event. We will post more after the event next week.
